This series of four Tex Avery directed cartoons were made in the early 1950s for MGM. They comprise a uniquely visionary take on cars, TV, homes and farms of the future. Avery’s non-stop invention is on display throughout as are the laughs. In glorious Technicolor.
It’s interesting what these spots say about the time they were made in – interesting that there was a time where looking forward to a “big, bright, beautiful Tomorrow” was something actually practiced in everyday society. There’s an expectant optimism there that seems almost dated now, I think.
Hey, some of that stuff actually happened – kinda sorta. The virtual fishing for instance.
The household built around the tv reminds me of the AT&T commercial where the guy has his tv on a leash tied around his middle so he can watch his shows in every room. And his friend is shaking his head and muttering, “Just get AT&T!”
The number of things they got right is astonishing. While the things themselves are not exact, the ideas behind them are spot on. Genetic engineering, hybrid cars, multi-view televisions, and even computers (if you exaggerate their theories). It is amazing!

Lol the lack of scope is hilarious! And people still do the same thing today, taking a very narrow view of how things are going to change…
i always thought these were idiotic when i saw them at a younger age, now i just feel nostalgic
